MS Windows 7 - Important Tips Regarding Printing and Office Products Compatibility

MS Certified Gold Partner

Microsoft's Windows 7 which was released yesterday looks like a great product and our initial testing is very encouraging.

While Windows 7 printer drivers will be available as part of the operating system, distributed via Windows Update, or via download from printer manufacturer's websites- please be aware that there may be some printer drivers which have not completed testing and thus have not been published yet.

If you plan on upgrading to Windows 7 shortly after yesterday's release, Docutrend strongly recommends checking the Windows 7 Compatibility Center at: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/default.aspx to best insure your current printing and office products will be compatible with Windows 7.

Additionally, there are a few key points we'd like to make you aware of :

  • Computers running Windows XP may not be easily upgradeable to Windows 7. Generally, you should not plan to do this without consulting with your Network Manager.
  • Most applications (accounting programs, databases, communications) have not yet been certified for use with Windows 7. Although initial testing has been very good, unexpected issues could arise and impact your company's daily work.

We recommend you don't rush into this very promising new desktop operating system, but rather plan for its introduction to your company when your critical applications are certified by their publishers.

If you have any questions or want some assistance in planning your move to Microsoft Windows 7, please contact us.

Sincerely,
